I just watched the feature on "diners, Drive-ins &Dives! My husband and will definitely be coming to eat at your establishment in the very near future! I can hardly wait!

My family and I are flying up there from Florida to try your Hot dogs, Burgers and Soft Shell Crab. Oh we cannot wait to try them all! Everything on the menu looks yummy.

Best philly cheese steak i've ever had, best milk shake, best food ever! i finished the large milkshake in 5 mins! and it's so thick (and good!) i love merritt canteen

I remember the canteen from my Central High School Years 1959-1963, and going there to get a great dog or hamburger. My mother told me she remembered going there during World War II. My dad remembered a previous owner of the Canteen Loraine who was 2 years ahead of him in Stratford High during the 1930's. I moved to California back in 1970, but when I come back to the Bridgeport area I always stop by for a bite to eat and remember times past. While back in 1988 for a 25 years high school reunion stopped at the Canteen and Ray the man who use to take my orders as a teenager was still there, although I know now he has retired and no longer there. Its nice to know there are still places in the area from my younger years, while so many others have dissapeared over time. Hope to come back in a couple of years for a 50 year high school reunion and I'm sure will stop there once again.

born and raised in bridgeport, spent alot of time at merritt canteen. when i got married, we actually lived on cambridge st behind marios pizza. i moved away 21 years ago and i sooooo miss the hot dogs at merritt canteen. i can practically taste them again. hope the "canteen" will always be there and maybe i'll be able to come back some day to relive my childhood.

Moved down to South Carolina 17 years ago. Every time I come up to visit my family in Connecticut I bring a bunch of dogs with the works back down to my husband. We just love that place. The best. We talk about it all the time and say I can go for the canteen right now!

I just saw the Diner, Drive-ins and Dives showcasing The Merritt Canteen, boy did that bring back memories!! It is wonderful to see the Merritt Canteen is still in business and continuing to make memories for others!!!!

Love, Love, Love this place. Was my hangout with all my high school buddies & Friends. Best place in town any day, but Friday & Saturday nights were best. Hung out there from 1974 -1984, then I moved to California, but can say,miss the atmosphere, people, and especially the food ! Good Luck in the Future, guys, glad you are still doing good !

My kids and I always loved the Canteen. 12 yrs ago we moved to PA but when we come home the Canteen is one of our stops. There is nothing like there Hotdogs and Fries...Keep up the good work and see you next time we come in...

In the 1950's hotdogs were 15 cents and hamburgers were 20 cents and we were there at least once a weekend.. I remember when McDonalds opened up down the street in the 1960's; we couldn't believe they called the things they sold hamburgers! I'm 3000 miles away now and there is no place like the Canteen anywhere.

We moved out of Connecticut 8 years ago and the only thing we miss the most is the Canteen. We are coming back to Bridgeport for Thanksgiving Break and are looking forward to visiting again. There is no place like the Canteen in Georgia.

The Merritt Canteen has the best chili cheese dogs, enormous XL fries, and awesome shakes that you cannot find anywhere else around.

I been going to the Canteen for over 12 years now! My sons grew up on there foods. I especially like the people who work there, I'm always satisfy!

I grew up not 2 blocks away from Merritt, i remember going there after school and late at night with my friends...i moved to long island 5 years ago and still go back to bridgeport for the hot dogs...best food ever!!!!
